What is the Paralda's CADR? How does it rate with Energy Star?
The Paralda's CADR (or clean air delivery rate) is in the 140-150 range. What is different about the Paralda is that it can be operated on the highest fan speed and does not produce elevated noise levels - it is quieter. Some of our other models such as our box style air purifiers achieve CADR's of 240 however they can be quite noisy at the high fan speed as are the other models on the market with high CADR's. We find most users operate these models on the lower fan speeds, which can have much lower CADR's. One of the challenges with the CADR as a metric for assessing performance of an air purifier is that user's don't operate the units at the high fan speed so what they really get is a lower CADR performance even though the unit is rated higher.
The Energy Star requirements state the CADR (or clean air delivery rate) is greater than or equal to two times the energy consumption in watts. The ratio for the Paralda is approx. 2.4 so it exceeds the requirement.
