For schools striving to be more environmentally-responsible the grass is only getting greener. IC Bus, a leading manufacturer of school and commercial buses in the United States, is looking for America's Greenest School, and it's up to students and teachers across the country to nominate their schools.
America's Greenest School Contest:
Students and teachers can find out what they can do to make their school greener, and enter the contest by visiting the America's Greenest School website. Students, parents or teachers can enter an essay of 500 words or less describing what makes their school 'green.'
America's Greenest School Judging: Essay submissions will be judged by a group of eco-experts, and a group of finalists will move on. America's Greenest School Finalists will be announced just after Earth Day, on April 30, 2009, and then it will be up to America to decide on the winner.
America's Greenest School Prizes:
The student who submits the winning essay will win a $5,000 scholarship, and sponsoring teachers may receive $3,000 to use toward educational materials.
Most importantly, the winning student will be awarded a plug-in hybrid school bus from IC Bus valued at over $200,000 for his or her school district. The hybrid model is 65 percent more efficient than standard school busses and can reduce greenhouse gas emissions by up to 40 percent.
