About.com Guide to Green Living

Marc Lallanilla is a science, health and environmental journalist. A member of the Society of Environmental Journalists, Marc has decades of experience as an environmental consultant, an architectural designer and a writer and editor.

Experience:

After working for the City of Austin, Texas, as a utilities and natural resource planner, Marc began surveying the benefits of ecological restoration projects for California's Department of Water Resources. Additionally, he has spent several years as an environmental consultant for private companies and governmental agencies. Marc also worked as an architectural designer, developing plans for energy-saving buildings. He has spent the past several years as a writer and editor covering topics as diverse as organic products, prefab housing, war and the environment, green-collar jobs and biodiversity.

Education:

Marc received his bachelor's degree from the University of Texas at Austin, where he majored in environmental geography and architecture. He went on to complete his master's degree in the College of Environmental Design at the University of California, Berkeley, where his thesis was in ecological restoration. Marc also studied in New York University's graduate program in Science, Health and Environmental Reporting.

From Marc Lallanilla:

Those of us who've spent time in the environmental movement know that issues like global climate change, alternative energy and waste management can be complex and confusing. How many years, for example, did we ponder the "paper or plastic" question? (Fortunately, we now know the answer is "none of the above.")

Despite the confusion, most of us still want to find simple ways to live a more sustainable life (like shopping with reusable bags). On the About.com site for Green Living, I'm committed to showing you how easy, fun and affordable it is to be, as a wise man once said, "the change you want to see in the world." Thanks for taking a look, and let me know how the Green Living site is helping you.
