Feeding a hungry world of 7 billion-plus people is no easy task. Fish and shellfish -- low-fat sources of protein with numerous health benefits -- will always be an important part of our global diet.

But high-productivity aquaculture also comes with some high costs. Is the spread of disease, the destruction of natural habitats, and the severe depletion of wild fisheries too great a price to pay?
