Triclosan is a chemical compound that's added to soap -- and toys, clothing, cosmetics, even kitchen utensils -- to inhibit the growth of bacteria.
But why? All soap is antibacterial, and in addition to encouraging the growth of antibiotic-resistant "superbugs," triclosan has been linked to hormonal problems and, according to a new report, impaired muscle functioning in animals and humans.
