Bad News for Climate Deniers

By , About.com GuideAugust 14, 2012

In spite of the overwhelming evidence that climate change is real, a tiny minority of scientists have continually found ways to cast doubt on the majority's consensus opinion. (And some of these climate deniers, it's worth noting, are paid for by oil companies like ExxonMobil.)

But as the world heats up, some of these climate change deniers are changing their minds. Richard A. Muller, a researcher at U.C. Berkeley and former skeptic, has concluded that climate change is "real and that the prior estimates of the rate of warming were correct." Going one step further, he adds: "Humans are almost entirely the cause."

I'm not sure where this leaves us -- especially in an election year when the odds of making progress are next to nil -- but maybe someday, someone in power will do something meaningful to get us on the right track toward a sustainable energy policy. Or not...
