Since 2006, the EPA has promoted water conservation through its WaterSense program, saving consumers about 46 billion gallons of water and $343 million in water and sewer bills, according to the agency's website.
Fixtures like toilets, faucets and urinals have been granted the agency's WaterSense label if they are at least 20 percent more water-efficient and perform as well as or better than standard models.
The EPA has now added showerheads to that list of fixtures. Replacing a regular showerhead with a WaterSense-labeled model can save enough water each year to wash more than two months' worth of laundry.
(Does this mean "showering with a friend" is no longer necessary? Dang...)
