Go Waste-Free this Holiday Season

Tuesday November 11, 2008

The holiday season is here, and whether your favorite festivities take place on Thanksgiving or Christmas, Halloween or Hanukah, you're bound to receive an influx of goodies and gifts before the New Year.

It's no secret that waste isn't all too green. And even so, since it is the season of giving, you should know that what goes around the gift is going to make the biggest difference to the planet.

So what can you do to make a difference this holiday season? No, really. We're asking you. Are you planning on using recycled wrapping paper or even no wrapping paper at all? Or maybe your contribution could be to send eCards instead of paper cards this winter.

Whatever you do differently, it's sure to make a difference - probably bigger than you realize. So sound off in our comments section below! You might just inspire a whole new green holiday revolution!

Biodegradable plastic is available now. I think it’s a good solution to wrapping world of gifts…

But I don’t know if they have been producing this plastics in colorful version…

One policy executed by American Government will influence the rest of the world. I really hope that Obama is aware about environmental problems that all the world is facing right now…
I hope to see Obama will create more Green Policies that will inspire the Whole Planet…

I didn’t know they have biodegradable plastic. That’s cool, but I don’t know how it will really help with the holiday decorating until it takes the place of EVERYTHING plastic we buy in stores. Hopefully that will happen soon.

No cards and no paper here. Even though they are part of tradition they seem so silly now, all of it just goes in the trash. If you absolutely have to wrap something, gift bags usually get recycled a few times, or you can use newspaper or fabric.

I love using reusable drawstring bags and totes for gift bags/wine bags (instead of using wrapping paper). I purchased a few from Kids Konserve because I liked the green reusable bags - the color and pattern sends a message without having to say it.
