I'M Green. Are You?

Monday July 7, 2008

Money, money, money! It's the green that makes the world go 'round, and often times it's a big help when you're trying to live the eco-friendly life.

As you well know, it's not too hard to spend a couple hundred dollars on the latest greatest indoor composter. Heck, you could even drop a couple of thousand on solar panels for your home.

While there are plenty of ways to dole out the dollars when you're going green, there's a new way you can make money to help others, and you don't have to do anything out of the ordinary either.

Heard of the IM Initiative? Well, it just so happens to be a great way to make money to help charitable organizations as you tap the keyboard of your computer or cell phone.

Sounds daunting, I know, but you really and truly don't have to do anything more than chat with your friends, via the internet that is.

Ready for the basics? Here they are:

  1. Sign into Windows Live Messenger. (Don't have Windows Live Messenger? Download it and convince your friends to switch too!)
  2. Select the charity you'd like to support. (American Red Cross, Stop Global Warming, etc.)
  3. Start Typing!

Need some more information before you get started? Check out this IM Initiative How-To by About's Guide to IM, Brandon De Hoyos! Or check out the IM Initiative Official Site.

And don't forget to come back and let us know which charity you're supporting!

What an awesome idea! I run a large diabetes assistance 501(c)(3) nonprofit so of course I will be supporting iPump.org, Inc. Our entire organization is green - we “recycle” medical items that would otherwise expire and be tossed out by taking donated supplies and giving them away for free to people who need them. But we also recycle paper, turn off lights, and our slap volunteers who wasteful(kidding).

I had not heard of the IM green initiative. Thanks so much for sharing this important message.
