Send Your Car Where the Grass is Greener

Thursday May 22, 2008

Moving, even for just the summer, takes quite the toll - on you, on your car and even on the environment. If you care very little for this pristine planet (or not at all) you can always just drive your car from one coast to the other. Then again, that might have more to do with not thinking about a greener way than blatantly ignoring your green options.

If you're looking for a few more ecologically-sound ways to move that big hunk of metal from the Pacific to the Atlantic (or vice versa), you might consider a different way:

  • Go Light Green

If you've got to take more than one vehicle across the nation, you might as well limit your carbon emissions as much as possible. Instead of driving each car separately, rent a car carrier from a business like Penske or U-Haul.

  • Go Bright Green

If you've already purchase a zero-emissions flight to your destination but still want your car to come with you, you might want to use a carbon-neutral transport service like uShip.

With a uShip or a similar service, you'll save your car the trip, you'll cut some carbon emissions by sending your car with several others, and you can neutralize those emissions you are contributing to the environment. It's a win-win-win (with a small cost attached).

  • Go Dark Green

If you can manage it, why not give up your car altogether? Living in the midst of everything in a large city or a small town leaves little need for much more than public transportation and the occasional taxi. And if the move is just for a few months, you're all the more likely to survive the change, right?
